Tips for the County Final

Having both an impressive stand and interview can make all the difference so good preparation is essential. The following are some useful tips for having a successful stand:

1.    Be imaginative with your display. Pictures (if you provided a service) and samples of your product would be of interest to the judges.
2.    Using flowers or nice materials to dress up the table as well as colourful backdrops including posters with important information such as surveys or final accounts will impress the judges!
3.    Including feedback from customers about your product or service can be very helpful too.
4.    If you designed any promotional material such as posters or packaging it would be a good idea to include these in your display also.
5.    Showing the judges how your product works or having a demonstration on how you made it would interest the judges greatly.

Remember a little effort goes a long way and the more effort that you put into your stand the more impressed the judges will be!

The interview is your chance to meet the judges and show off your product/service so it is vital that you make a good impression. Here are some top tips for an impressive interview:

1.    It is a good idea to appoint a spokesperson for the interview that will introduce each team member and greet the judges. However, you shouldn’t let one person do all the talking. Give everyone a chance to speak and to answer the judges’ questions.
2.     Remember your manners and be sure not to speak across one another.
3.    Be honest, tell the judges about any difficulties that arose. They’ll be impressed to hear about how you overcame them.

Don’t forget to read over your business plan between now and when you meet with the judges to familiarise yourself with it. Also you should bring a copy along with you to the interview so that you can refer to it for your facts to make sure that you are accurate when talking with the judges.
